Readymade

On Point and Red

Endearing

This is cool. I don’t know what it is, but it’s cool. Okay, what it is is the second album from Readymade, a Vancouver band that sounds unlike anything I’ve ever heard before. And all I can say is cool, because I don’t know how to describe it, and that’s cool. The first song is two and a half minutes of synths and vocals that lead into “Lightstrands,” a thumper that rivals any techno track you can hear in a nightclub. Other “cool” tracks are “A Blind Tomorrow” and “The New People,” with their driving rhythms and soaring guitars. However, the rest of the album is pretty soft but straightforward, and doesn’t stray from the identity or sound already formed. The instrument work on this album is amazing, and the vocals are quality. I would consider this background music – no, not in a negative sense, but that if I was having a party, this would be my number one pick. Anybody wanna rave, cause On Point and Red is in my stereo right now…
