Damnation, is this the real deal! This reissue of a 1971 release is what people mean when they say “down home” blues. Literally. This thing was recorded on Williams’ front porch, and you can hear chickens squawking and trains going by in the background. This meshes perfectly with his nimble guitar and hard as nails voice. With songs such as “Farm Blues” (which relates his experiences as an inmate on the Denham Springs prison farm) or the emotional “Goodbye Slim Harpo,” this music is real, vital and raw. The method of recording has created a record that sounds extremely live – almost as if it was being performed in front of you, with the guitar and voice playing cat and mouse around your head.
