Roots of Dub Funk

Various Artists

Tanty

Hmm, I wasn’t aware that a sub-sub-subgenre like “dub funk” was old enough to have “roots” yet. At any rate, this sounds to me like dub with a tiny bit of techno (instrumentation-wise, not beats-per-minute-wise) influence. Reminiscent of DC’s The Immortals (right down to the melodian appearing on some tracks), minus the off-key pretentious vocals. Too slow to dance too, unless maybe if you’re stoned. And let’s face it, dub as a genre is built around the fascination with hearing a snare drum echo “tss-tss-tss-tss” ad infinitum, and that pretty much requires some ganja. Or so they tell me.
