Cannibal Corpse
Gore Obsessed
Metal Blade
I remember hearing Cannibal Corpse’s Hammer Smashed Face upon its release back in 1993, and being completely dumbfounded by how extremely heavy-yet-melodic it all was. A brilliant slab of death metal featuring the immortal and unlikely sing-a-long chant of “crushing cranial contents,” it’s their undisputed masterpiece, and the one everyone will look to with regards to these guys. However, on the evidence of this album – fittingly amputated for reviewing purposes, with only three tracks rendered in full – that may be about to change. Here, Cannibal Corpse actually manage to over-brutalize even by their own high standards, with songs and execution being tighter, heavier, faster, more furious than ever before, and with George Fisher’s impossibly deep grunts in as fine form as ever before. If you are only slightly familiar with Cannibal Corpse, you obviously know what to expect – only this time, it’s more violent, packing more punch. With the subject material still exclusively revolving around disgusting brutal practices, this is adrenaline-infused splatter metal moving at a hundred miles per hour.
