Love Funk

Volume 2

Hip-O

Depending on how old you are, this music may remind you of discos, roller rinks, or a sample from some other song. Love Funk 2 collects some fairly popular tracks like The Gap Band’s “You Dropped a Bomb On Me,” Rick James’ “Superfreak,” and James Brown’s “Sex Machine.” It also has more than a few nice surprises, like Billy Preston’s “Outta Space” and the Bar-Kays’ “Shake Your Rump to the Funk.”

But perhaps what sets this collection apart is the sheer audacity of including the long-form versions of songs wherever possible. I mean, let’s kick things off with thirteen minutes of The Gap Band’s “Bomb”! Nearly six minutes of Cameo’s “Word Up.” You sweating yet? How about seven minutes of “Super Freak”? Make sure you drink plenty of fluids.
