Pretty Girls Make Graves

Good Health

Lookout!

A rather fine collection of energetic, angular emo from the weirdly named Pretty Girls Make Graves, with the turbo-charged boy/girl-vocals being an obvious selling-point that works like mad, often raising rather mediocre tracks to the next level. The album flows over with hooks and ideas, twists and turns, with ingenious musicianship and a vivid presence, making all debates over whether it’s actually any good seem a tad redundant. With one foot in the visually imploding European indie of the late ’80s (think Sugarcubes, Happy Mondays) and the other in the more melodically oriented post-rock of today, Pretty Girls Make Graves are an attractive concept bristling over with life and charm.
