Ashes To Ashes

Ashes To Ashes go the disco-goth pop route of MTV circa 1983, although it’s all done in a remarkably unimpressive manner. Nerdy computer pop shakes hands with ’80s indie rock in a very polite way, and the end result is something like Alice Cooper’s early ’80s detours into synth-rock or even the sound of Journey teaming up with The Buggles. Yeah…
Apparently, they regard themselves as doing something along the lines of Collective Soul and Foo Fighters – it may be my stereo, but that’s just not the sound I’m getting here. Ashes To Ashes play geeky AOR synth pop, offering grueling synthoramas with no heart, soul, attitude, purpose or meaning. I mean, I hate to break it to them, but this is really, really bland and meaningless music that goes nowhere and probably doesn’t even try to.
