File Under Black

Fat Wreck Chords

I’ve always preferred a little melody in my punk rock. That’s why I didn’t gravitate towards metal like so many of my generation did in the 1980s. With File Under Black, None More Black construct aggressive, melody-ridden tunes that exhibit equal parts Black Flag, Wire and Cheap Trick.

On “Dinner’s For Suckers,” NMB offers a proper raised-fist-punk-rock anthem: “Don’t feel the set up / Don’t feel the sting.” And, “The Ratio of People to Cake” shows off the voracity of the musicians. Although this band doesn’t do anything overt in production or experimentation, File Under Black is a solid punk record.

If this album is any indication of their energy, then their live show must be one of the most dynamic around.
