Open Letter To The Damned

Octone

As Fast As is a band on the rise and Open Letter To The Damned demonstrates exactly why they have managed to score opening slots with the likes of Dashboard Confessional and Butch Walker.

Power-pop junkies will be salivating over such glorious and contemporary examples of the genre as “Florida Sunshine,” “Gretchen My Captain” and the infectious-as-avian flu “Blame It On The Drugs,” which recalls the buzz and energy of Marvelous 3 in particular.

Spencer Albee, the band’s singer/songwriter, has fronted various bands over the past 10 years, but with material as strong as the title track and “This Time”, As Fast As seems to be the best vehicle for his music yet. The Weezer-esque “Special” is the pick of a very fine crop, with an enduring melody and some tongue-in-cheek lyrics, while “If I Only Knew” provides a soulful diversion that Maroon 5 would be proud of.

Orson is the latest US band with retro influences to make it big and with “Open Letter To The Damned”, As Fast As could easily follow in their footsteps.
