River City High

Not Enough Saturday Nights

Take Over Records

Classic lead, rhythm, bass and drums. These guys can rock like any cover band in a bar with a $5 entry charge and a fight waiting to break out at closing time. Lead guitar (Mark Avery, best as I can tell) hits all the notes, and there’s a sense these guys wanted to sound like Kiss or Bachman Turner Overdrive. The drummer (Gregg Brooks) can do more than just pound out one beat, and the vocals have some real heft behind them. The sound is timeless, the lyrics stock and the mix clean. I can hear these guys sing, which is a nice touch, and they know there’s nothing like a good hook in your songs to make a pleasant set. River City High sound like they’re packing more than a few hits wrapped in tinfoil down in their Levis.
