White Blue Yellow & Clouds

Introducing

I and Ear

Holy shit!

The dream I’ve had to go back in time to the 1950’s, ever since seeing Grease as a kid, has come true…in a sense. I have stumbled onto the doo-wop/soul group that never was (or was too late), and they have a really strange name: White Blue Yellow & Clouds.

Led by the overachieving Matt Bauder (this dude leads, or co-leads, about seven bands other than this one!), WBY&C encompass the soulful leanings of Sam Cooke and Curtis Mayfield alongside the doo-wop side of motown–and its all delivered under the umbrella of influence from The Beach Boys’ best work. “In My Dreams” is an updated version of “In My Room,” and it comes off beautifully. Skip ahead a few more tracks and you’ll even find a cover of Brian Wilson at his finest, “God Only Knows.” Speaking of covers, “Cheer Up in Your Sleep (Daydream Believer)” takes on The Monkees!

“Moonlight” and “Seeing Stars” are both brilliant flashbacks to an era before I was even a thought in my parents’ young minds. I could just eat this album up with a spoon!
