The Brooklawn Session

Self Released

I know it’s extremely cruel to recommend a great record that’s only available at a band’s live shows, but that’s what I’m about to do for The Alternate Routes’ new limited edition acoustic CD, The Brooklawn Session.

It’s a reworked version of the Bridgeport, CT band’s superb debut Good and Reckless and True (originally self-released via Vanguard Records), and it has a laid-back, summery vibe, thanks to tracks like the bluesy “Are You Lonely,” the country-tinged “Good and Reckless and True,” and the quite brilliant “Time Is a Runaway.”

The whole band shows its skills in reinterpreting the songs, but guitarist Eric Donnelly and vocalist Tim Warren particularly shine on the sparse “Hollywood” and the superb “Endless Conversation,” which also features excellent fiddle work by Morganeve Swain.

I’ve raved enough about The Brooklawn Session – if you want to see what the fuss is all about, do yourself a favor, catch a show and snag this gem of a CD in the process.
