Fire ‘Neath the Still by Lewi Longmire is the album you would be listening to.
Opening with the laid-back Dylan-esque “Moon Song” Longmire’s voice channels Charley Pride and brings the listener to where “my friend the wind/ carries this song to you.” Longmire also finds a good way to pick up women by telling them “I’m bound to get drunk and fall down/ Now baby, would you take me home?” Homespun blues at its best. Longmire also gets his jazz hat on, on the smooth “Disappear.”
Longmire has long been a sideman and studio musician for the likes of Michael Dean Damron, Icanlickanysonofabitchinthishouse, Tony Furtado and Fernando. On his second solo disc, he proves that he can not only handle being front and center, but he excels at it.
Fire ‘Neath the Still is a perfect alt-country fireside listen. Lewi Longmire bluesy-country is perfect for a lazy day wherever you may be.
