Made Violent

Startime International/Columbia

The debut EP by three young dudes from Buffalo, NY is just FUN, man! The jangly guitars, uber infectious melodies, rascally attitude, and cheeky lyrics encompass everything that’s pure in rock ‘n’ roll. Made Violent sound like a few friends jamming out in someone’s garage, forgetting to shower, eating conveniece store burritos, and drinking too much cheap beer. And isn’t that just about perfect?

5 songs, and just under 15 minutes running time, is just enough time to fall for this band. There’s not a throwaway track in the bunch – from the danceable garage punk of opener “Two Tone Hair,” to the distorted fuzz blowout of youthful angst “Wasted Days.” It’s all auditory gold.

So, what do they sound like? Comparisons to The Strokes are bound to arise (especially with the distorted vocal effects on “Dirty” and “Wasted Days”), but Riverboat Gamblers crossed with Cage the Elephant is a far better illustration. Their sound may not be new, but it is fresh.
