Moof

11 Foot Pole

If Moof sounds a lot like a soundtrack to some cool indie film, there’s a reason for that. The LA based instrumental rock band have probably spent more time tracking film and TV shows than playing bar gigs, but they are a rock band with an identity away from film. For their latest record, the band decided to invite a who’s who of LA guitar slingers to collaborate on the new tunes. The guest list reads like an old home gathering of SST recording artists: Joe Baiza (Saccharine Trust), Mike Watt (Minutemen, fIREHOSE), and Sylvia Juncosa. They are joined by utility guitar hero Nels Cline (Wilco, Geraldine Fibbers) and Italian rising star Sara Ardizzoni. You can hear a lot of Ennio Morricone in these tracks, as well as surf, rockabilly and space age jazz. Moof is thoroughly enjoyable, if not necessarily spellbinding. It makes a great soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon. Mix up a pitcher of martinis and settle in with your favorite secret agent for an evening of international intrigue
