A Christmas Cocktail

Milan/BMG

Now this is interesting. A nouveau-retro (!) collection of Yuletide standards, presented by Mr. Bee, author of Cocktail Parties for Dummies. The overall effect is quite charming, if a little short of its full potential. Featuring all the expected guests – “Jingle Bells,” “Rudolph,” “White Christmas,” “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts),” “Sleigh Ride, “ etc. – this disc takes some unexpected detours with a couple of original tracks, “Space Age Santa” and “Christmas Cocktail,” both of which miraculously add something new to what could have been an adequate (if tired) collection of holiday rehash. Swingin’!
