Mick Turner

Tren Phantasma

Drag City

While playing with the Dirty Three, Turner is always somewhere on the side plucking away ragged notes and following the building rhythms of violinist Warren Ellis. Glimpses of Turner’s talent can be heard only briefly before Ellis makes his case. Tren Phantasma is a not-so-subtle reminder, like saying “look, I can fucking play an instrument as well as you can.” Notes are strangled with a slide and celebrate in sounding more like rattling tin cans than any Allman brother. Turner rubs on rusty strings to beckon forth waltzes in the steel mill, and this is starting to sound like a bunch of rubbish but you get the point. I’m yelling for a guitar solo at the next Dirty Three show at which I happen to find myself. Drag City, P.O. Box 476867, Chicago, IL 60647
