Andrés Calamaro

Alta Suciedad

WEA Argentina

Recorded in the USA with what reads as an excellent pick list of NY studio hands, Calamaro comes off as a more musically-clever Sting, wandering through styles and approaches in a casual, almost experimental manner. Most of the effect is lost if you don’t understand Spanish, as Calamaro’s main talent seems to be his lyrics, filled with an ironic anger that manages to be funny instead of whining. Perhaps this is why his popularity so far has been restricted to Spanish-speaking countries. Nonetheless, the music is still solid and immaculate, and the monolingual can still have a suspiciously good time.
