Slackers

So I’m wondering why the clubs in Fort Lauderdale and Miami don’t regularly send their listings to me? This is free publicity, people! Please fax your calendar of events to (954) 435-1596.

Concerts

Matchbox 20 played an amazing concert at the Sunrise Musical Theatre. Cool For August got the crowd going with “Don’t Want to Be Here,” “Trials,” and “Walk Away.” (“Look at his stomach” I heard the girls behind me say, gushing about lead singer Gordon Vaughn.) Matchbox 20 opened their show with unique video footage, and played their hits from You or Someone Like You, including “Push,” “3 AM,” and “Long Day,” and a fantastic cover of “Mercy, Mercy Me.”

A very sunburned Sebastian Bach made an appearance at the Button South, singing all of the old Skid Row hits of the ‘80’s including “I Remember You,” “Youth Gone Wild,” “Piece of Me,” and “Sweet Little Sister.” I must admit, the man is still stunning. (Loved the blue eyeliner.) Fans must have dug deep into their closets and dusted off their favorite ’80s outfits. (Put it all back in the closet. Now.) The Eric Knight Band, featuring former Vandal singer Eric Knight opened, playing new songs “Never,” “Play On Words,” “Inspiration,” and “Funk It.”

New Clubs Who Did Not Fax Information To Me But I’m Mentioning Them Anyway: The Nest is located at 2311 North Federal Highway Pompano Beach (954)781-6878. Eden Dance Club, formerly The Theater, is open every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and located at 3339 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale (954)565-0344. Call them if you want more information.

Cool Stuff

The MTV Pager works like a regular pager yet has the added bonus of weekly pages from MTV. When owners return the page, they receive recorded information on exclusive music news, giveaways, contests, discounts, and the latest MTV programming. The MTV Pager Network will sponsor an all-ages concert of local bands at Club Q in Davie on Friday, April 3, 1998 at 6pm. (7357 Davie Road Ext, Davie. (954)431-8044.) Bands scheduled to perform include Creative Pain, Unsilent Rain, Irony and Inimical. Headliners Creative Pain, winners of the 1997 Slammie Swards. $5.00 cover. MTV will give away MTV pager, hats, T-shirts and various promotional items during the show.

Even cooler than the MTV pager is Zoob, a new building block toy with colorful ball and socket pieces. You can create anything with Zoob and people of all ages love it. I’ve looked in several stores to buy Zoob for myself, and I can’t find it anywhere. Damn!
