The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs

Overdrive

Alive

Great, fast, hard-drivin’ punk rock with a lot of tongue in cheek. As the instructions on the package say, “Play It Loud, Motherfucker!” which is what you should do when listening to punk rock that just refuses to put the brakes on. That is, keep things in Overdrive.

The band has a good feeling for what punk rock is supposed to be about, and this is evidenced by they way they printed their lyrics. For example, on “What’s Coming to Me,” a song about a spoiled kid who wants everything, they printed the line “I wanna be a rock star” in strikeout. That’s PUNK! Generally, the lyrics remind me of how the Pink Lincolns write great songs about the world around them, telling me the Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs aren’t full of shit.

And now the kicker: there’s a cover of the Dictators’ “Faster & Louder” on this CD. Respect for the progenitors of punk rock, I like it. Alive Records, P.O. Box 7112, Burbank, CA 91510
