Fan Modine

Slow Road to Tiny Empire

Slow River

Equal parts Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev and Pavement, Fan Modine let you know exactly what you’re in for right away, with “Cardamon Chai,” a song whose slyly grinning melody is punctuated by a rubbery, swaying guitar lead. Still, Fan Modine manages to advance their sound and become more than the sum of the aforementioned parts, especially with songs like “Rhubarb Pie,” where the band’s nervous edge tumbles with the song’s anthemic proportions with good results.
