No Idea

Moonraker played first at one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Jawbox and Edsel also played that night at the Hardback Café in Gainesville almost 4 years ago. I only caught the band a few times before they called it quits, right around the same time as that show. I want to see them again. I’ve never been a big fan of posthumous releases, because they always seem dated to me. This Moonraker 10″ however, sounds really fresh, even better than I remembered them sounding through that iffy PA at the Hardback. Singer/guitarist Travis speaks or whines over gentle indie rock that builds to rocky choruses and breakdowns. It’s hardly groundbreaking, but this is a good representation of the quiet/loud genre and how it can be both uplifting and annoying all in the space of a few minutes. All in all, this manages to stay out of the annoyance warning area most of the time, but depending on how the day has been going, this can sound like nails on a chalkboard. Once again, No Idea come through with another impressive packaging job. No Idea Records, P.O. Box 14636, Gainesville, FL 32604
