Feeling Strangely Fine

MCA

We have all heard their latest single, Closing Time, on the radio, but what about the rest of the album? Is their hit just a fluke, or is this latest effort that good throughout? Fear not; the entire CD is great.

Semisonic has found its perfect niche: sensible, well-crafted pop with a message. The songs are tight, nicely textured, and thoughtful. Especially nifty is the song “DND,” about the delights of an affair behind a closed motel door.

Brad Vander Ark, bassist for Verve Pipe and a musician whom I admire a great deal, is a big Semisonic fan. Now I know why!
