My Own Victim
The Weapon
Century Media
Great, high-quality Sabbath mixed with lots of rap and core. I’m reminded of Sick of It All, but with a lot more metal, but the message to fight the oppressors hits just as hard.
Clearly, My Own Victim have a mission to make public their creed and to make sure the kids will mosh. “Waste It Away” is a perfect example. At nearly four minutes of thrashcore, there’s no danger of the pit losing intensity (which happens when songs only go for a minute or two). “Something Called Pride” is a great positive energy song with a powerful chorus of “never give up, never give up,” that melts into a heavy, heavy blues guitar at the end, having an eerie effect on the listener, as if I had just witnessed a violent street fight. Other intense songs include “Defy the Norm,” “Throw the Next Stone,” and “Born Free.” This album is a good weapon for the next culture war.
