Nope. No gimmicks here… just straightforward, no frills Stooge-esque rock `n roll. The eight songs on this EP range from high octane numbers like “Cigarette” to murky dirges like “Dark Cave.” The Gimmicks may wear their influences on their collective sleeve, but every time they start to sound too much like another band, they twist the song around. It works, because the Gimmicks do manage to have their own sound.

If you’re the type of freak that likes hard-edged guitar rock straight from the dark side, you’ll like this EP. Estrus Records, P.O. Box 2125, Bellingham, WA 98225; http://www.estrus.com
