Music Reviews

Those who only know Big Sandy belting roadhouse hillbilly country with the Fly-Rite Boys might be prompted to check the CD player after firing up this disc. Instead of the rocking roots music he made his rep with, this record is an homage to the music that moved him as a youth, Doo-Wop and R&B. It’s a gem of a record, recorded with one of the original favorites of the genre, the Calvanes, on backing vocals. This is toe-tappin’ stuff. If “Hey Señorita” or “Pretty Girls Everywhere” don’t move ya, get some pennies and put them on your eyes. You’re dead. Hightone Records, 220 4th St. #101, Oakland, CA 94607
