Deal’s Gone Bad

Large and In Charge

Jump Up!

I’d been hoping to hear more of Deal’s Gone Bad since being blown away by their track “The Elephants” on the Ska American Style compilation earlier this year. So I was thrilled when Large and In Charge showed up in my mailbox. Thankfully, I wasn’t disappointed. Deal’s Gone Bad have fulfilled the promise of that track with a full album of great traditional-flavored ska. Favorites include the swing-flavored “Good Times,” the moody “Deal’s Gone Bad,” the bluesy “Dollar Down,” and especially the soulful and sweet “Wanting You,” but the whole record is worth a listen. Large and In Charge is easily the best release on Jump Up! since the Adjusters’ debut album, which is no small honor, in my book. I’m glad I found this band, but now I want to know when they’re coming to Florida! Jump Up! Records, 4409 1/2 Greenview, Suite 2W, Chicago, IL 60640; http://www.mcs.com/~jumpup/WWW/homepage.html
