The Fly-Rite Boys

Big Sandy Presents the Fly-Rite Boys

Hightone

Finally stepping out of the big guy’s shadow, the Fly-Rite Boys deliver an earful of hot sounds on their first solo disc. Anchored by the brilliant piano of Carl “Sonny” Leyland, this band proves that for swinging cowboy jazz, there ain’t no better. You can close your eyes and imagine yourself in 1940s Kansas City, grooving to Count Basie on one track. Next number, it’s a late night at the Broken Spoke with Bob Wills on the bandstand, weepin’ pedal steel and all. A truly enjoyable record, just a bunch of great pickers playing whatever the hey they want. Pick this disc up, rent a ragtop, and drive across Texas with a big ole stupid grin on your face. Hightone Records, 220 4th St. #101, Oakland, CA 94607
