Laurie Linden

Pregnant Pause

Odd little record, consisting of six songs broken into trimesters, apparently to coincide with the artist’s pregnancy (who knows for sure). The result is a musical diary with emotional shifts between the first and third trimester. Her sound is instantly accessible, and has a firm foundation in some of the past pioneer women, like Carole King and Joni Mitchell, as well as contemporary influences like REM. Without actually trying to sound like these women, you can hear their influence. Pregnant Pause is one of those records that, while not overly original (two of the six songs are covers), is still quite enjoyable. Monolyth Record Group, P.O.
