The Dismemberment Plan
The Ice of Boston EP
Interscope
I’ve seen the name around, but my knowledge of this band is very little, but I know that “The Ice Of Boston” is that song, the one Keith always plays on his radio show that I always wanted to get on tape. That’s essentially why I picked this up. The other songs are the ones that impressed me the most, though.
“The Ice Of Boston” is a good song, something I always imagine hearing on the college radio waves of old. It’s catchy and the narrative is amusing in a good way. It’s a good teaser to put out there to get someone interested in this band. It seems to be the sweet candy treat, with the rest of the songs being the more fulfilling main course. A good song, but not one that seems to characterize their music as a whole. The other three songs mix DC post-hardcore influence through indie rock along with some pop sense, ending up sounding smart, savvy, and pretty approachable. Not as pop as the main track, but far from being abrasive. Good lyrics amidst music that has some of the welcome maturity of uncommon rhythms and such. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this band; it seems they are all true. Interscope Records, 10900 Wilshire Blvd. #1230, Suite 1230, Los Angeles, CA 90024
