Cinerama combines the talents of the Wedding Present’s David Gedge (here David Lewis Gedge) and Sally Murrell into a project that fits neatly between Gedge’s slightly uncomfortable melodies and Belle and Sebastian’s golden afternoon charm. Laying down solid guitar, drum, and bass tracks, Cinerama uses both Gedge’s and Murrell’s vocal talents, and often sounds like the Wedding Present’s mellower moments, toned down a bit more. “Hate,” a slower number with carefully orchestrated strings and marimba, features Gedge’s razor-sharp lyrics and delivery amidst a cheerfully lilting melody.
