I went to a party in New York City, heralding the opening of Strangeland , former Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider’s magnum opus, a twisted tale of modern primitives and their piercing antics. I left the party in search of a punk rock show just to shake off the really disturbed feeling I got being around people who liked having things sewn into their skin. Brrrr!
While the film is a detective story centering around a murder victim who is found with her mouth sewn shut, the soundtrack is about “loud rock,” the unfortunate new genre that’s invading the music world in hopes of getting airplay, since it’s not “heavy metal.” Featured on the album are Metal tracks by old hands like Megadeth, Pantera, Anthrax, and newer acts like Sevendust, Snot, Soulfly, and System of a Down. Now, I haven’t seen the movie and I don’t know if I ever will, but I must give Dee Snider credit for putting out a soundtrack comprised of bands most old fart Twisted Sister fans wouldn’t know existed otherwise. Would that 38-year old father of two from Long Island have any idea who Nashville Pussy are? I doubt it, but he’s going to buy this album because it’s associated with the band of his youth… And, to snag the “younger” fans, Marilyn Manson and Coal Chamber appear as well.
And why is Twisted Sister’s “Heroes Are Hard To Find” being played all over the place? Because it’s on this album… You can’t stop rock and roll.
