Casual Tonalities

This group has already been dubbed the “goth-Garbage,” but perhaps we shouldn’t be so hard on them. The first couple of tracks sound promising. Monica Khoury’s vocals are nice, but nothing we haven’t heard before. As the album wears on, one begins to wonder exactly what sort of sound the band is going for. Are they trying for a 12 Rounds sort of jazzy-goth cabaret thing? Soon one begins to wonder if this band is gothic at all. Even the depressing songs seem tainted with an artificial sweetener of some sort. It’s like Diet-Goth, or better yet, sugar-free bubble-goth. Not bad, but not very good either.
