Knitting Factory

This NYC quartet mixes a lot of different things within its drums/guitar/bass/electric saz/clarinet confines. Distinctively complex melody lines waver between Arabic and Klezmer, while percussion often strays as far as India. As a result, Pachora sounds clearly exotic without sounding influenced by any one particular culture – surreal exoticism is the way to go, if the hypnotic nature of the music on this disc is anything to go by. The seamless and studied nature of the music lends itself equally to party stereo and headphone contemplation.
