Sexplosion! [Reissue]

Rykodisc

Well, it’s about time someone reissued these!

When Sexplosion! first came out, I wanted nothing to do with it. I didn’t understand the disco and funk elements that seemed to increasingly pervade the music, and the “Sex On Wheelz” video annoyed the hell out of me. I preferred their scarier, less accessible industrial dance days. I ignored the subsequent releases ( 13 Above The Night , Hit & Run Holiday ) as well. By the time my tastes got around to widening and I finally embraced these records (well, 13 Above The Night and Sexplosion! , at least) they had gone out of print.

But here we find them again, more than complete with bonus tracks, full booklets, and one hell of a sexy groove. Mix that in with sin, underground pleasures, a tendency to lean towards the sinister, darker side of things, and make sure there’s a good, catchy beat underneath. Add yet some more sex and yet some more groove and you’re beginning to get an idea.

These elements aren’t as prevalent on Hit & Run Holiday , which maybe explains why that’s a record that still just doesn’t catch me. I’m not sure what it is. But I’m thrilled to see the other two albums back among us.
