Monster Ballads

Razor & Tie

If you are a late twenty-something to early thirty-something man-child, these songs likely helped you reach a few critical passages in your teenage years. These songs were all over the radio, and they most certainly warmed the cockles of a lot of 16-year-old cheerleaders’ hearts. Warrant’s “Heaven,” Mr. Big’s “To Be With You,” Whitesnake’s “Is This Love?,” Extreme’s “More than Words” – all those great old hair-band ballads that you played for your girlfriend in an attempt to plant some sort of idea in her mind without actually having to make a commitment. (Whatever happened to Sheriff, Kix, Europe, and Steelheart, anyway?) It’s all pretty sappy in retrospect, but what the heck? If you married the cheerleader, you might get real lucky if you buy her this one.
