Luscious Jackson

Electric Honey

Grand Royal

Luscious Jackson is back, albeit minus keyboard player Viv Tremble. Jill, Gabby, and Kate remain and are carrying on with a new record that doesn’t quite measure up to the incredibly high standards they set with their three previous records. Even though it isn’t as good as their other records, it’s still far better than most anything else out there. Electric Honey melds the silky smooth style of Fever In/Fever Out with the funkier grooves found on In Search of Manny and Natural Ingredients . The result is that the album struggles for its identity. Despite wonderful tunes like “Nervous Breakthrough,” “Sexy Hypnotist,” and the Deborah Harry love fest, “Fantastic Fabulous,” the album never quite works as an album. There is no sense of it as a whole. But it has some really great parts.
