You’ll Never Be The Sun

Rounder

An excellent collection of very carefully selected, well-sung, and well-played nuggets that comes across as fine old bluegrass, but leans toward country. Morris and her extremely capable bandmates offer a slightly quirky and somewhat understated delivery on this package of twelve songs, which range from late ’50s George Jones all the way through to Leiber and Stoller, with a Hazel Dickens classic and a handful of soon-to-be standards thrown in. This ought to set well with fans of either bluegrass or country music. Highlights include “The Likes of You,” “Destination Love,” “If Teardrops were Pennies,” “Scraps From Your Table,” and “Thy Burdens are Greater than Mine.” Maybe the best effort ever by this West Texas gal. One listen and you’ll feel like you’ve known this music for years.
