Daddy a Go Go

Cool Songs for Cool Kids

Shortly after you have kids, you realize that the most interesting moments are not the cliches like first steps, but those times when they suddenly hit upon the perfect gesture. My son (he’s fourteen months) likes to hang out by the stereo and flex his legs to the music, bobbing up and down. He’ll generally bob around to anything, but this is the first time I ever saw him reach up and give the knob a vicious twist – “turn it UP!”

The grownups will probably get more of a kick out of their kids’ reactions to the age-old formula of guitar-drums-bass than by repeated listenings to the music itself, but Daddy a Go Go are nonetheless much more listenable than their barneyfied saccharine ilk. The kids can sing along, dance along (or clap their hands if they’re in the car), and the parents won’t have to suppress a shudder when the voices from the back seat inevitably say “again, again!” Includes covers of “Scooby Doo Where Are You” and “Speed Racer,” along with a several satisfying instrumentals.
