It took 13 years for me to track down the elusive Grace Jones cover of Edith Piaf’s “La Vie En Rose” I first heard in Austria, but here it is sharing space with an eclectic and electric array of disco dynamite that comprises the soundtrack of Spike Lee’s most recent cinematic jewel. Must remember to go see that flick, if only to see just exactly where the Who MIGHT fit in, as the inclusion of “Baba O’Riley” was definitely wasted on me. Meanwhile there’s good sounds a-plenty to be heard on this disc. The ubiquitous ABBA, the sensual Marvin Gaye, the polyester funk of the Emotions, Chic, and Roy Ayers, the plaintive Elvin Bishop, and the classic Thelma Houston. Overall, a nostalgic assembly well worthy of purchase.
