Tonite We Fight Again
Hey-ho! The Bullys, my favorite home-town NYC punk rockers, have themselves another album out! And it is, as one would expect, punk as punk gets. Three chords, snotty vocals and lyrics and non-stop punkrock energy.
Tonite We Fight Again is ten songs about things close to the Bullys: fighting, sex, drugs, rock and roll, headcase women, and taking candy from babies. Listening to the title track, I get the impression that even a team-up of the Jets and Sharks wouldn’t leave a scrap with the Bullys without every nose bloodied and lots of missing teeth. “I Wanna Be Famous,” clearly the theme song for every up and coming “pop” band, reveals exactly the reason for wanting fame: “I want everybody to kiss my ass!” “Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie” is perhaps the most complicated of the Bullys’ numbers to-date. It’s full of that rolling, jumping wobbly bass and incredible melody. But gimmie, gimmie, gimmie what? OH, “Money! Money! Money! Sex! Sex! Sex! Drugs! Drugs! Drugs! Drugs!” Mother will be charmed, I’m sure. Play it loud! Provided country starts charting punk rock, “PMS” will become a number one with the line “Your PMS is killing me!” What about one for the women they like? “Sluts,” of course! Then, for the real Bully in all of us, there’s “Lunch Money,” that’s about taking lunch money from the kids at school…
Them Bullys are continuing the tradition of New York City punk rock that the Ramones, the Dead Boys, etc., etc.! started: they write fast, tight punk rock songs and they play out all the time. They make a record and they play out even more! They even bully people into coming to their shows… I await the Bowery Boys 2000 movie to come out, starring the Bullys…
