The Katies

The Katies

Spongebath / Elektra

Plenty of amped oomph and full throttle energy from a band who loves what they’re doing and is hungry for success. Though capped with an anthemic building number, the Katies rock steady and headstrong throughout their self titled debut release. So instantly enjoyable the first time I heard it I was already looking forward to the next time I could hear it.

Bits and parts of Moist and the Posies (a perfect vocal cross as well as musical styles), Soul Asylum, Fountains of Wayne, Live. A more ambitious and more often clever Cheap Trick meets a thicker, fatter Badfinger. A friendly well-adjusted Thin Lizzy jams with a de-beeped re-beefed Cars. A Zeppelin intro turns into a big, punky Mickey Monkees tune.

Just don’t miss the Katies. Please.
