Jerry Dale McFadden

This Girl

Plug

Jerry Dale McFadden, as a sideman, has twinkled the ivories for such artists as Owsley, Jason and the Scorchers and the Mavericks. On this solo release he starts off well, with the title cut that sounds like Hunky Dory -period David Bowie, with what seems to be helium-induced background vocals. In fact, one of the more interesting aspects of the record is McFadden’s voice – it’s kinda odd. Not bad, just odd. The sound of the record is for the most part pretty bland pop, well-produced by Nashville popmaster Brad Jones.

None of the songs really stand out, but the keyboard work is top notch overall. “If Lovin’ Is A Sin” features Tom Petersson from Cheap Trick on bass, and its easy-going country style, with the violin of Tammy Rogers, goes down smooth. Unfortunately, like the rest of the record, none of it really sticks.
