Fantasy

Kitty-Yo/Kollaps

I got this at the same time as I got the La Makita Soma CD and, although stylistically much different, they seemed to make sense together. Couch use guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard to create captivating instrumental post-rock songs with a variety of interestingly different textures. Some songs rock a bit, others groove, some are more atmospheric in nature, all have layers of style. Some of the fascinating bits are the result of what they’ve done with the music as far as effects (“Nah Dran”), but mostly it’s simply a result of what they are playing and how they make everything fit together so nicely. Another shining example of why “instrumental” doesn’t have to mean “background music.” Worth searching for.
