American Football

Mike Kinsella of Joan of Arc plays guitar, bass and sings in this band, and it is readily apparent from the first listen. American Football sound like a more straightforward Joan of Arc, having stripped away the quirky sounds, obscure lyrics and experimentation. Familiar quiet, patient strums and textures glisten and overlap, with trumpet and organ finding their home amidst the sounds as well. Smooth and quite splendid.
