Gov’t Mule

Life Before Insanity

Capricorn

Life Before Insanity , Gov’t Mule’s third studio effort, doesn’t waste any time getting warmed up. The first track, “Wandering Child,” delivers some of the best power rock I’ve heard in a while. There are plenty of strong guitar riffs to accompany vocalist Warren Haynes’ forceful voice, which is both rough and delicate at times throughout the record. Guest musician Ben Harper appears on “Lay Your Burden Down” to lend his vocals and contribute some distinctly wailing guitar noise. As with all great rock records, Life Before Insanity contains its share of ballads, such as “World Gone Wild” and “Tastes Like Wine,” as well as excellent blues harmonica and guitar. Anyone looking for some no-frills rock and roll and a reason to raise their lighter high above their head will definitely dig this album.
