Sunset Valley

Boyscout Superhero

Sugar Free

Boyscout Superhero , the second album from Portland’s Sunset Valley, continues the high-pop hijinks of their debut, The New Speed , but this time tosses in a healthy dose of glam, making you wonder if Velvet Goldmine was playing on the studio VCR while they recorded. The band has been garnering praise for their popish, intelligent sound for years, and it’s easy to see why. Moments of Cars-catchiness mix with the platform boots of T. Rex and Slade, and the record closes out with “Doll Hill” which reminds you enough of Syd Barrett-era Floyd to make you wish you hadn’t packed the bong away the last time you moved. As an added plus, the cover features an angel-winged mouse floating on a string. Cool!
