The Elements of Transition

Moon Ska NYC

Here’s the ska record for people that don’t like ska. While The Elements of Transition is undeniably a ska record, so many other flavors go into their sonic stew as to take their appeal beyond your average third-wave ska kid. Throw in a dash of emo, a pinch of punk rock, and a generous helping of pop sensibility, and you’ve got a platter that’s accomplished and diverse. It’s the kind of album you’ll put on, listen to rapt from start to finish, and then hit the repeat button three or four times because you don’t want it to be over yet. For example, check out the anthemic and maddeningly catchy “Veronica Sawyer,” undeniably one of the best songs I’ve heard in a looong time. This one’s currently doing hard time my cranium, and they’ve got a record full of accomplices that could easily serve 20-to-life, including “Everyone I Know is From Lindenhurst,” “Invincible,” “It Will Be You,” “World Over,” and “Instant Message.” A winning effort from a fantastic band.
