Hindu Cowboys

This short, 7-track release from Hindu Cowboys is definitely rooted in traditional, twangy old-school country a-la Hank Williams. The first three tracks bring that sound to the forefront, but the fourth track, “Love Shaped Hole,” opens up into a subtler, contemporary sound akin to Chris Isaak. Without losing the characteristic instruments, “Boy George” picks up the pace while Joseph Martens croons about heartbreak and lost love. “An Eye For An Eye” is a powerful song with the same flare that made Garth Brooks a huge crossover success. Over all, this is a promising, well-written album that should bring this band some recognition.
