Zuco 103

Outro Lado

Ziriguiboom / Six Degrees

Six Degrees has tapped into some mighty powerful Brazilian electro-voodoo. Last year’s Bossa Cuca Nova and Brasil 2mil compilations opened a window on Brazil’s take on electronic music, a sound so vibrant and distinctive it easily mirrors the country’s Amazonian ecology.

Interestingly enough, despite the legit sound, Zuco 103 is a trans-continental operation, featuring Brazilian vocalist Lilian Viera, German pianist Stefan Schmid and Dutch drummer Stefan Kruger. Zuco 103 provide appropriate takes on a variety of Brazilian and electronic genres, from the frenetic instrumental organ samba of “No Bar do Samba” to the exquisitely liquid tongue-twisting rap delivery of “Zabumba No Mar.” This is a head-spinning journey through centuries of musical tradition, from the past through the future, from Africa to South America to North America and many points in between.
